To enroll in the LICQual Level 3 Award in Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Qualification applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Educational Requirements: A minimum of a high school education or equivalent is recommended.
  • Fitness & Health: Applicants must be in good physical health and able to meet the physical demands of open water lifeguarding.
  • Swimming Ability: Applicants must be confident and competent swimmers, capable of swimming at least 400 metres continuously and demonstrating effective stroke techniques in both calm and challenging water conditions.
  • English Language Proficiency: Applicants must have a good command of English, both spoken and written, to follow instructions.

To achieve a ‘Pass’ in any unit, learners must provide valid, sufficient, and authentic evidence demonstrating their attainment of all learning outcomes and compliance with the prescribed assessment criteria. The Assessor is responsible for evaluating the evidence and determining whether the learner has successfully met the required standards.

Assessors must maintain a clear and comprehensive audit trail, documenting the basis for their assessment decisions to ensure transparency, consistency, and compliance with quality assurance requirements.
