By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Advanced CPR Techniques for Adults and Children
- Demonstrate advanced CPR techniques for both adults and children, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, based on the casualty’s age and condition.
- Apply the correct compression-to-breath ratio for high-quality CPR, ensuring maximum effectiveness in life-threatening situations.
- Understand and perform modifications in CPR techniques depending on the specific needs of different individuals (e.g., infants, children, and adults).
- Gain confidence in applying CPR in a range of emergency scenarios, improving survival rates in cardiac arrest cases.
Use of AED and Defibrillation Techniques
- Understand the role and function of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in treating patients experiencing cardiac arrest.
- Demonstrate the correct placement of AED pads and how to follow the device’s prompts during defibrillation.
- Perform safe and effective defibrillation techniques, including assessing the casualty’s condition before, during, and after using the AED.
- Recognize when the use of AED is appropriate and how to integrate defibrillation with ongoing CPR efforts.
Managing Choking and Severe Airway Obstruction
- Identify the signs and symptoms of severe choking and airway obstruction in both conscious and unconscious individuals.
- Apply the correct techniques to relieve airway obstructions, including abdominal thrusts, back blows, and chest thrusts, based on the casualty’s age and condition.
- Understand how to manage a blocked airway and prevent further complications, ensuring the patient’s airway is cleared effectively and quickly.
- Be prepared to act immediately to manage airway obstruction in adults, children, and infants.
Scene Assessment and Immediate Response
- Conduct a thorough scene assessment to identify potential hazards and ensure the safety of both the casualty and the responder.
- Assess the severity of the emergency situation quickly and prioritize actions based on the needs of the casualty.
- Respond effectively and immediately to the emergency, ensuring that the correct life-saving procedures are implemented promptly.
- Understand how to manage bystanders, communicate effectively, and delegate responsibilities when necessary to optimize emergency response.
First Aid for Life-Threatening Conditions
- Recognize and respond to various life-threatening conditions such as severe bleeding, shock, respiratory distress, and heart attacks.
- Apply first aid techniques for managing severe bleeding, including applying pressure and using bandages to control hemorrhage.
