Basic Life Support BLS Training
The LICQual Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support (BLS) Training is a professional course designed to provide learners with essential knowledge and practical skills for responding effectively to emergency situations. The course develops practical expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking management, and the operation of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), enabling learners to respond confidently during life-threatening incidents.
Delivered by experienced instructors, the course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, allowing learners to assess casualties, recognise emergency conditions, and apply appropriate life-saving interventions. Through realistic scenarios, learners develop critical decision-making and practical skills required for immediate emergency response.
On successful completion, learners receive an accredited certification valid for two years, demonstrating their competency in Basic Life Support procedures. The training provides a professional foundation in emergency response, enabling learners to apply effective first aid techniques across diverse settings while maintaining safety and confidence during urgent situations.

- Understand how to assess an unconscious casualty for signs of life and provide appropriate care until help arrives.

Basic First Aid and Scene Safety
- Understand basic first aid principles and the importance of providing immediate care in emergencies.
- Demonstrate how to assess a casualty’s condition and provide appropriate first aid for common injuries and illnesses.
- Recognize the importance of scene safety and how to ensure that both the rescuer and casualty are safe before performing any life-saving procedures.
- Understand the role of personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control when providing first aid.

Assessment and Verification
All units within this qualification are subject to internal assessment by the approved centre and external verification by LICQual. The qualification follows a criterion-referenced assessment approach, ensuring that learners meet all specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a ‘Pass’ in any unit, learners must provide valid, sufficient, and authentic evidence demonstrating their attainment of all learning outcomes and compliance with the prescribed assessment criteria. The Assessor is responsible for evaluating the evidence and determining whether the learner has successfully met the required standards.
Assessors must maintain a clear and comprehensive audit trail, documenting the basis for their assessment decisions to ensure transparency, consistency, and compliance with quality assurance requirements.
